Movies have a tendency to have a big impact on design trends. Perhaps because movies take us away on a fantasy adventure that we want to be a part of and we can bring a little bit of that magic into our lives through art and design. Late last year 'Where the Wild Things Are' and 'New Moon' probably had the greatest impact on trends, and they will probably continueto do so through this year. I have a feeling the soon to be released (due for release March 5, 2010) Tim Burton's 'Alice in Wonderland' will have quite an impact on design trends this year.

Korean paper company 'O-check design graphics'

Yesterday I went to a paper shop in Bondi Junction and picked up this gorgeous little note book. Which is also inspiring for my new collection, which is still in the works.

I looked the company that designed the book up on the net, and found they are a Korean paper company, called O- Check Graphic Design, and they make some lovely paper goods. They seem to be up with the trends. It seems kind of funny to see lots of Paris inspired paper goods on a Korean website.

Shoes

It seems there are some crazy trends going on in shoes right now, designers seem to be pushing the limits, becoming more daring, innovative and playful.

Wire frames from YSL S/S 09
super high heels from Burberry

Marc Jacob's backward heel.

Alexandre Herchcovitch's, half wedge half stiletto heel
Oscar de la Renta, chain and diamonds

Ultra high heels from Basso & Brooke

Flower vase shoes from Scherer Gonzalez

Aminaka Wilmont's Toeless Kicks, probably the most crazy, and uncomfortable.

Spring is coming

This post is only really relevant to those of us in the southern hemisphere.
I'm absolutely freezing, and still wearing many layers, but I have noticed the shops are already gearing up for spring. And the look for spring is frilly skirts, light floral dresses and blouses, belted volume and denim.

I made a little collage on polyvore, to give you a sense of the up coming spring trends. if you are keen to know more about spring fashion trends visit fashion-era, they go through the trends in more detail.

And a few etsy finds to get you in the mood for spring things.

Cute e-cards

Well everyone seems to be blogging about these gorgeous e-cards by Kate Spade. They are so adorable! Anyway I thought I'd look at them from a trend point of view, as my teachers said we need to keep up with trends in the world of graphics.

As I said in an earlier post, art on doilies is a growing trend.

Typographic trends, its either bold, simple, graphic text or hand drawn and artistic.

Something that is becoming increasingly popular is photographing a collection of small objects carefully placed, similar to the way scientists display collections of butterflies.
