I think Im addicted to collage, it just makes me happy. Something about creating something new from something old, re-appropriating vintage images, taking them out of context and giving them a whole new meaning. Plus im addicted to paper, i collect the most random bits of paper for no apparent reason, other then my own happiness and the possibility it could be used for some kind of art of craft one day.

These lovely collages are by Nicola Starr.

Does anyone else draw on their shopping lists? Sometimes when I find the grocery list lying around I'll start illustrating some of the things on the list, just for a bit of silliness. Apparently I'm not the only one. Love these illustrated shopping lists by Debbie Hill, illustrator and collector of shopping lists.

I love these customised ceramics by Ninainvorm. Playful, cute and colourful and still holding on to a bit of the traditional vintage floral design. Oh so pretty!
Lots more on flickr too.

DisBand

disband

Guess what? I have an upcoming group exhibition!!! Woohoo!
Remember Once Upon, late last year? Well the lovely curators Angela and Renee are once again bringing there magic to the gallery to bring to you 'DisBand'.
Inspired by the 40th anniversary since the break-up of The Beatles, the theme of this carefully curated exhibition, titled Disband, is the end of relationships, be they romantic or otherwise. With the support of one of Sydney’s favourite indie art venue’s, aMBUSH gallery, Renee and Angela will be creating somewhat of an installation where visitors will tour the apartment of a couple undergoing such a split, and the featured works will be on the wall of their “living space”.
Its going to be AMAZING!!

Opening night : Thursday May 27th, 2010 at aMBUSH gallery from 6pm to 9pm, with the exhibition open daily from 10am to 5pm through to Sunday May 30th.

I love all the old buildings in Sydney. Back when I was growing up out in the outer suburbs, we would occasionally come into the city on a weekend, and I was greatly fascinated and amazed by all the old buildings. Its nice they haven't knocked them all down. They really don't make buildings like they used to.

All photos are my own :)

Love owls? who doesn't?? Well today I came across a rather cool little blog full of all things owly, My Owl Barn. The gorgeous purse at the top is from Anthropologie, a shop I swoon over from a distant, if only there was one in Australia!!, but then perhaps its a good thing there isn't or I'd have no more money. The middle pic is from the rather well known Goldfrapp shoot, by Serge Leblon. (I'm sure you have seen it before, but can't hurt to see it again.. and again) And the last shot is a rather awesome wedding cake! I want to make one! hmmm birthday cake??

Fontopoly

fontopoly

This was my favourite artwork from the Go Font Ureself exhibition last month in Sydney, I wanted to find a picture of it to share, and just today came across it on welovetypography, this incredibly clever typographic piece is by the most amazing Timba Smits, an Aussie designer.
It really appealed to me, because I am a big fan of Timba's work, the grungy vintage style, and I love monopoly! oh and of course because I love typography.

While doing a bit of googling, I happened upon this rather lovely blog, Made by Joel, by a stay at home dad and artist, who creates fun toys and projects with his kids, using materials found at home. He is also currently working on a kids craft book with the same publisher as the above, Amanda Blake books . I think its a really wonderful idea, creating toys and having fun, just using found objects, rather than consuming plastic mass produced, expensive toys. It reminds me of my childhood, copying the crafts off Playschool (a kids tv show, for the non-aussies) . Its really quite eco-friendly and these kids seem to be having a great time, its probably good for their creativity too.
I hope that if I ever have children, I could do the same with them.

I finally got my Mac back (after it being in repair for 3 weeks), and so far it seems to be running happily and smoothly. Just the way I like it. So now I'm feeling quite positive about getting back down to some work.

Beautiful, delicate and whimsical illustrations by Julie Morstad. My cat used to do that, when I had a dolls house, and she was just a little kitten, she would go through the window and sit in my dolls house, it was so cute!
